When watercolorist Brian Gordy first climbed down the steep bank of the White
River near his home, he was hoping to catch a glimpse of
some turtles. Instead, he was treated to an ongoing
parade of the reptiles in all sizes and styles. The
painter was hooked, and spent much of his free time in
the coming months sitting in his special spot, recording
turtle antics with digital photos and quick sketches.
From a purely artistic viewpoint, Gordy found turtles
alluring sculptures of plates and chain mail, claws and
color. The fact that they were water creatures, and he,
a watercolorist, cinched the deal for the naturalist.
